The Washington Commanders announced four roster moves before Sunday’s away game against the New Orleans Saints. WR Noah Brown suffered a serious kidney injury during the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans. Head coach Dan Quinn said that it would likely keep him out for the rest of the season, and the team moved to claim WR K.J. Osborn off of waivers from the New England Patriots. Brown was officially placed on injured reserve today.
Washington gets another wide receiver back from injured reserve. Jamison Crowder was placed on IR with a calf injury on October 2nd, and his 21-day practice window was opened on Monday as the team was coming back from their bye. He was a full participant in practice all week, and had a questionable designation due to still being on IR. Crowder will be available to play WR and help on returns if needed, unlike Osborn who will likely need another week to get integrated into Kliff Kingsbury’s offense.
The Commanders also elevated two players from the practice squad for the Saints game. Kicker Zane Gonzalez showed up on the injury report on Wednesday with a left foot injury. He was limited the first day, but a full participant the rest of the week. Washington has had kicking issues all year, and Dan Quinn said the team signed Greg Joseph to “protect the team” in case another injury at kicker could potentially cost them a game. Gonzalez was listed as questionable, and will likely be the kicker with Joseph available in case of emergency.
Washington also elevated DT Carl Davis from the practice squad. Daron Payne was limited yesterday with a back injury and is listed as questionable for tomorrow’s game. Davis was elevated for the Titans game, with former 2nd round pick Phidarian Mathis being a healthy scratch for the first time this season. If Payne is inactive tomorrow, both Mathis and Davis will likely be active.
