The Role
- The Communications Manager will be responsible for planning and executing all internal and external communications. This can include tasks such as developing and executing communications strategies, creating and distributing press releases, managing Ikore’s website and social media accounts, coordinating events and speaking engagements, and collaborating efficiently between teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy that aligns with Ikore’s and project goals and objectives.
- Create and manage content for various communication channels, including websites, social media platforms, newsletters, press releases, and internal communications.
- Craft compelling and engaging messages that effectively describe and promote Ikore / project activities, events, and achievements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather information and insights to create accurate and impactful communications materials.
- Develop success stories and case studies to share the impact of Ikore’s projects and learnings.
- Ensure consistent messaging and branding across all communication channels and materials.
- Monitor and analyse the effectiveness of communication campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.
- Manage media relations by building and maintaining relationships with journalists and relevant media outlets.
- Proactively seek opportunities for media coverage and develop and distribute press releases and media kits.
- As needed, organize and manage events, including press conferences, webinars, workshops, and seminars.
- Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partners, and industry influencers to enhance Ikore’s visibility and reach.
- Monitor industry trends and news to identify opportunities for thought leadership contributions and proactive communication.
- Stay updated on emerging communication technologies and tools to enhance Ikore’s communication efforts.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent and timely communication of key messages.
- As needed, support crisis communication efforts by developing and implementing communication plans and messages.
- Provide guidance and support to team members regarding communication strategies, messaging, and best practices.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, social sciences or a related field. Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Four (4) years of experience in communications, public relations, and/or media management roles.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven experience in developing and executing communication strategies and campaigns.
- Knowledge of various communication channels and tools, including social media, websites, and traditional media, and crafting effective content for them.
- Familiarity with knowledge management systems and social media management tools.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders and media contacts.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Familiarity with design and multimedia tools, such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience working in the international development / non-profit sector is preferred.
