In its relentless effort to reduce malaria cases and deaths in Nigeria, Malaria Consortium is calling for qualified professionals to apply for the position of Data Supervisor for its Malaria Market Analysis (MMA) qualitative survey. With ongoing operations in partnership with Nigeria’s Ministry of Health and major stakeholders, Malaria Consortium continues to lead critical malaria control initiatives such as SuNMaP, NetWorks, and MAPS.
Job Locations
The assignment is open across five key Nigerian states:
- Abuja (FCT)
- Anambra
- Kano
- Lagos
- Rivers
Applicants must reside in the state of interest and be available throughout the duration of the MMA qualitative survey exercise.
Purpose of the Role
The Data Supervisor will play a pivotal role in the MMA survey by leading, mentoring, and supervising data enumerators. They will ensure that data is collected accurately and ethically, following the research methodology and organizational policies.
The supervisor must uphold:
- Research integrity
- Community respect and cultural sensitivity
- Informed consent ethics
- Data quality and proper documentation
- Use of audio-recording tools for transcription purposes
Scope of Work
As a Data Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:
- Participating in training on FGDs (Focus Group Discussions), KIIs (Key Informant Interviews), and IDIs (In-Depth Interviews).
- Leading pre-testing and field simulations.
- Managing survey participant scheduling and allocation of interviews across enumerator pairs.
- Overseeing the performance of 4 data enumerators in each assigned state.
- Reviewing qualitative data for quality and completeness before translation/transcription.
- Providing leadership in assigning audio files for transcription and compiling reports for submission.
- Participating in daily review meetings and field incident reporting.
- Collaborating with national supervisors and the research specialist during the entire data collection phase.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, or any medical-related field.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in field research, particularly qualitative data collection.
- Proven experience conducting FGDs, KIIs, and IDIs.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and report writing.
- Deep knowledge of the local language and culture in the preferred state.
- Excellent leadership, time management, and coordination skills.
- Must not be a current employee of any government agency.
Successful supervisors will be expected to deliver the following:
- Daily activity summaries from field enumerators.
- A comprehensive end-of-survey report.
- Timesheet collation and submission.
- Proper documentation of KII, IDI, and FGD sessions.
- Translated tools into the predominant local language.
- Participation in state-level debriefing with the State Malaria Elimination Programme (SMEP).
