Fellowship Details
Funded by The Nippon Foundation of Japan and supported by the United Nations, the United Nations Nippon Foundation Fellowship 2026 is designed to equip mid-career professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to make impactful contributions in their fields.
The programme is delivered in two phases:
- Research and Academic Training – Conducted at a host institution to provide specialized academic knowledge in the fellow’s area of interest.

Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold at least a first-level university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
- Be aged between 25 and 40 years.
- Be currently employed by a government agency, non-governmental organization, or academic institution.
- Show the ability to conduct independent academic research.
- Demonstrate commitment to advancing policy, governance, and sustainable practices in ocean affairs, international law, or related areas.
- Be a national of a developing country.
