​Are you a social change leader, activist, or policymaker dedicated to fighting inequality? The Atlantic Fellows for Social and Economic Equity (AFSEE) programme at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is now accepting applications for the 2026/2027 cohort.

​This is a fully funded opportunity for changemakers from the Global South and across the world to gain the tools, network, and academic backing needed to drive systemic change.

The Two Fellowship Tracks: Which One is For You?

​One unique aspect of the AFSEE programme is that it offers two distinct paths depending on your ability to relocate to London.

1. Residential Track (Full-Time in London)

  • Duration: One year.
  • What you get: You will complete the MSc in Inequalities and Social Science at LSE.
  • Funding: Includes full tuition fees, a living stipend (approx. £23,000), and travel costs.
  • Requirement: You must relocate to London for the duration of the programme.

2. Non-Residential Track (Work While You Learn)

  • Duration: One year.
  • What you get: You will earn a Postgraduate Certificate in Social and Economic Equity.
  • Funding: Fully funded travel for modules, accommodation, and a project grant of up to £10,000.
  • Requirement: You remain in your home country/job but participate in online modules and travel for in-person retreats.

Eligibility Criteria for African Applicants

  • Experience: You must have at least 7 years of substantive experience in social change, policy, or activism.
  • Academic Background:  Residential Track: Requires a 2:1 undergraduate degree or equivalent.
    • Non-Residential Track: More flexible; accepts those with 2:2 degrees or, in some cases, no formal degree but significant lived experience.
  • English Proficiency: Must meet LSE English language requirements (IELTS/TOEFL may be required).
  • Commitment: A proven track record of challenging the root causes of inequality.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Do I need an undergraduate degree to apply?

For the Residential track, a 2:1 degree is required. However, the Non-Residential track is open to “non-traditional” applicants who may not have a degree but possess extensive leadership experience.

Can I apply if I am currently a student?

No. Applicants must have completed their current degree before the fellowship begins in September 2026.

Is there an age limit for AFSEE?

There is no upper age limit. The programme specifically looks for mid-career professionals with at least 7 years of experience.

When will I hear back?

Shortlisted candidates are usually invited for interviews in March 2026, with final decisions announced in April 2026.
