The dissemination of health information in Africa faces significant challenges, including gaps in health reporting skills and the effective communication of health research. Recognizing the pivotal role that communications play in public health awareness and the translation of health research into public knowledge, fraycollege is launching a groundbreaking fellowship program. This initiative aims to enhance the coverage of health and development stories in Africa, ensuring accurate, impactful, and accessible information for the public.
Fellowship Overview
This 9-month fellowship is designed to bring together two collaborative cohorts of health journalists and health sector experts. The program provides access to bespoke training workshops, resources, and grant support, all aimed at improving the quality of health reporting across Africa.
Who Should Apply?
The fellowship is open to health journalists and health experts from:
- Nigeria
- South Africa
- Kenya
- Zambia
- Malawi
- Ethiopia
Eligibility Criteria:
- Journalists should have some experience in reporting on health issues and ideally work for a publication or media house.
- Health experts could be scientists, researchers, public health officials, policymakers, community health workers, academics, civil society campaigners, or activists.
What Does the Fellowship Include?
Selected fellows will benefit from a comprehensive package that includes:
- A series of health communications workshops delivered virtually.
- An e-course on health reporting and communication to enhance skills.
- An in-person conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, fostering networking and collaboration.
- A data stipend to support research and reporting.
- A story production grant to assist with developing high-quality health stories.
