Launched under the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (SWAp Coordination Office) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, this fellowship nurtures young professionals with the skills, mindset, and leadership capacity to drive sustainable change in the nation’s health system.

About the National Health Fellows Programme

The National Health Fellows Programme brings together a diverse group of emerging leaders from across Nigeria  in public health, information technology, social sciences, and health-related disciplines.

The goal? To build a network of innovative health professionals who can lead primary healthcare improvements, support evidence-based policy, and champion community-level interventions that save lives.

Fellows receive advanced training, hands-on mentorship, leadership exposure, and a monthly stipend to support their participation throughout the programme.

The NHF Programme is more than a fellowship  it’s a platform to learn, connect, and make a difference.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the National Health Fellows Programme 2025, applicants must:

  • Be between 25 and 35 years old.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field, Information Technology, or Social Sciences.
  • Demonstrate interest or experience in public health, health NGOs, or community development projects.
  • Be available full-time throughout the fellowship period.
  • Be an indigene of the state they are applying from.
  • Own a smartphone with data access for virtual learning and collaboration.
  • Provide a recommendation letter from a university dean, NYSC supervisor, or recognized organization.
  • Exhibit leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Fellowship Structure

The NHF is structured around interactive, hands-on learning and collaboration:

Selection Process

The National Health Fellows selection process is transparent, competitive, and merit-based.

Step 1: Application Submission

Step 2: Screening and Interviews

Shortlisted applicants will undergo virtual and/or physical interviews.

Step 3: Final Selection

Successful candidates will be contacted via official email for onboarding and fellowship commencement.

  • State of Origin Certificate
